Pursue the 2026–2027 Getty Fully Funded Pre and Postdoctoral Research Fellowships
Applications are now open for the Getty Foundation’s 2026–2027 Pre- and Postdoctoral Fellowships, one of the most respected academic opportunities in the arts and humanities. These fellowships support emerging scholars whose work aligns with the annual theme of the Getty Scholars Program, offering them time, resources, and an academic community to complete dissertations or further postdoctoral research for publication.
Applicants may also apply through the African American Art History Initiative (AAAHI)—a special program that supports research on African American art and its broader cultural contexts. Selected fellows will join the dynamic scholarly community at the Getty Research Institute (GRI), participate in weekly seminars, and enjoy full access to the Getty’s vast collections. While predoctoral fellows are based at the Getty Center, postdoctoral fellows may choose between the Getty Center and the Getty Villa.
Fellowship Details for 2026–2027
- Duration: Nine months (late September to late June)
- Locations: Getty Center (for predoctoral fellows); Getty Center or Getty Villa (for postdoctoral fellows)
- Funding: $30,000 stipend for predoctoral fellows and $35,000 for postdoctoral fellows

Eligibility Requirements
Predoctoral Fellowship:
- Applicants must have achieved doctoral candidacy by the deadline and intend to complete their dissertation during the residency.

Getty Scholar Grant:
- For those who earned their doctorate before September 1, 2021, and wish to pursue independent research at the Getty Center or Villa.
Reapplication Policy:
